Serve in person at Neighbor to Neighbor Distribution Day:
Volunteers wear a red apron to stand out in service to their community. They focus on building caring connections as they share food, diapers, and basic needs assistance in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. They ensure that neighbors are safe and supported, no one leaves hungry, and, as one neighbor put it, bellies and hearts are filled.
Serve from the comfort of your home as a Virtual Volunteer:
A team of virtual volunteers answers our 3 helplines: one in English, one in Spanish, and one focused on emergency utility bill assistance.

Volunteers pull together in community around elementary-aged scholars to inspire, encourage, and practice skills for success, including reading, social-emotional and leadership skills. Freedom Schools is in session mid-June through July each summer, with occasional events throughout the year.
One time:
Read-aloud guests across the professional spectrum -- activists, artists, doctors, lawyers, professors and public servants -- bring stories and encouragement each day. The only qualification is a willingness to share.
On going commitment:
Reading buddy, classroom helper, field trip chaperone
-
Reading buddy – Pairs one-on-one with a scholar during reading time to build confidence and literacy skills.
-
Classroom helper – Assists the lead teacher with day-to-day classroom activities and keeping scholars engaged.
-
Field trip chaperone – Accompanies scholars on off-site excursions to ensure safety and full participation.
On-site volunteers must complete safety training to be on campus with scholars.
